A new dimension in figurative art

Young artist Shivkumar K. V. displayed another splendid outburst of poetic figurative paintings as part of the preview of his painting exhibition, ‘configured,’ at the Icon Art Gallery on Thursday. His passion for photo-realism led him to create these art works. Owing his inspiration to Raja Ravivarma, Srinivasachari and Sajid, Shivkumar has brought out great conceptualization in his work.
Most of his paintings have various facets of nature camouflage with the human figuration. It’s either animals such as snakes, cows or frogs or his favorite flower, the lotus that is seen in his work. “I prefer human figures because of the balanced pattern that they provide and my love for nature paved its inclusion as well. After my first show in 2007, I had decided to bring out a more traditional, yet contemporary form of localized art and hence this outcome.” The bright colour compositions on canvas, archival paper and mount boards has really brought out the theme ‘configured’ very effectively. The paintings will be on display at the Icon art Gallery till April 18.

Poetic figurative paintings by Shivkumar K V

Man in relation with nature as illustrative symbolic metaphoric are Shiva's stronghold. Graceful , rhythmic and sensitive rendering of man with suggestive of nature-flowers , moon ,water etc in simple forms convey the receptiveness of man with insightful poetics .Geometrics of dots , dashes and linear flows help sustain tenacity, along with organic tonality . A personal interpretation of mans relationship with nature and a symbolic tuning with humanness.

Man & Nature are so well interlaced and intertwined with each other that they form a complete entity, which cannot be viewed by secluding one from the other. They should exist together, in a harmony and rhythm, to make for a perfect world.

The ongoing show of paintings at Iconart gallery by Shiva Kumar K V unravels the artist’s strong affinity for the natural elements and their relationship with mankind. The artiste, in his figurative works, delves into the vicinities of the human mind, and unveils the many intricacies and ecstasies of meditation.

The peace and content is apparent in the works. Amongst the presence of natural elements the human soul embraces the quiet meditative stillness in Shiva Kumar’s work.

The artist carves out his figures with a strong line, continuous and lyrical; it creates a symphony that cannot be overlooked. The artist’s strong hold on drawing grants the works certain strength and spirit that speaks for itself.

The many elements that appear frequently in the paintings like, fire, flowers, birds, etc, seem to blend into the human bodies very subtly and naturally.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Art is an age old practice; various lives along the at most visual practices. The work of art of mine emerges as my soul and cosmos. The Zen, The Tao or any medication is art and eternity for breath.

In chronology the practice of real academic art at Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, Hyderabad was started in the year 2000 with loads of still lives, life studies, Land scaping, the golden rule and much more are still a sleeping soul till date with the technical flows.

The Work of Art is figurative and much of common play. Men in the work are consistently medicates and the center of my work, beside the connection with the cosmos. The elements like the lotus plants, sensitive bulls yet energetic, flowers, and many such symbols are the composite on canvas. Line as the major base of art work and then comes the color. The elements like the lotus, snakes and bulls are the origin inspiration from Indian iconography, the surroundings and conventions. These elements are coincidently extracted from the academic studies while studying the miniature and mural study from university. The sense of colors is bright and balanced to the figurative composition.

The technique is premature of tempera’s imitation. The textures are of the egg tempera as working on layers and scarping or washing like.

Its inspiration from Ajanta paintings and minor painted at Ellora in the first visit; year 2005. The adoption not salient the characters of Ajanta painting but the philosophy of characterization preoccupied in mind to explore on that way. The professional study at Hyderabad, teachers Mr. Srinivas Chari and Mr. Sajid- Bin- Amar whom I admire paved to my work on this path.
